Does getting a filling hurt?

How do I know if my decay has reached the nerve?
Persistent throbbing pain, severe pain at night, or teeth that are very sensitive to heat could be signs that infection has reached the nerver, this requires prompt examination to determine if root canal treatment is needed.
Can early-stage decay heal on its own without treatment?
